Have you ever known exactly what you needed to do and still not done it? You know you need to hire because too much still depends on you. You know you need to delegate, but trusting someone else with what you built feels harder than it should. You know a partnership is no longer right, your prices need to change, or you need to become more visible, yet you keep postponing.
Sometimes the strategy is already clear. The Design is not the missing piece. Something deeper is influencing whether you can act on what you already know. The Law of Design gives purpose a structure through which it can become reality. Most experienced leaders know how to turn ideas into action. But there comes a point when knowing what to do is no longer enough. That is where the second Law begins.
Imagine a leader who knows he has become the bottleneck in his company. He knows he needs to delegate and allow others to carry real responsibility. From a Design perspective, the answer is obvious. Build the right team. Change the structure.
But what happens when he does not trust anyone enough to do it? When delegating activates the fear that someone will damage what took him years to build? The Design may be sound, but another force is operating through it: Energy.
The Law of Energy does not ask only what you are doing. It asks: What are you operating from? Two leaders can make exactly the same decision from completely different internal places. One hires from fear, another from inner peace. One sets a boundary from resentment, another from inner authority. The action can look identical. The current running through it is not.
When I speak about Energy, I am not talking about whether you feel energetic today. I am talking about the deeper patterns from which we perceive, choose, relate and lead. The need to prove ourselves, over-responsibility, fear of visibility, the need to control, or the belief that everything will fall apart unless we personally hold it together. Some patterns have been with us so long they no longer feel like patterns. They feel like us.
Why this is not a mindset problem?
Mindset belongs to the Law of Design. The mind gives direction. It interprets, plans and turns vision into action. But Energy is the fuel for the mind. The quality of that fuel influences what the mind notices, how it interprets what it sees, and which possibilities feel available to us.
Your mind can know the new direction while still being fuelled by the old Energy. You can tell yourself that you trust people and still contract when you hand over responsibility. You can understand boundaries perfectly and still say yes while something inside you is saying no. It is almost like carrying an invisible signature into every room. You may change your words and strategy, but the same pattern continues to influence what you notice and how you respond.
Some patterns shaping a leader’s decisions began long before their business did. One founder could never fully relax because she was always waiting for something to go wrong. She recognised the same pattern in her mother, who believed that if she stopped holding everything together, everything would collapse. Decades later, her daughter was running her company the same way.
Another leader kept postponing a difficult conversation until she recognised: in my family, keeping the peace was more important than telling the truth. What looked like a leadership problem had a much longer history.
Sometimes the pattern was once necessary. A founder told me: I know I have to let go, but I simply cannot. She recognised that control had once meant safety. What had protected her had become the very pattern limiting her company. The company may be new, but the Energy running through the leader may be much older.
Working with Energy means learning to recognise the current that is actually running through the system and how it expresses itself through the way we feel, perceive, respond and lead. Where is Energy flowing freely? Where is there too much or too little? Where is it blocked, depleted or out of balance? Sometimes Energy needs to be moved or brought back into balance. At other times, the imbalance comes from a deeper energetic pattern that needs to be transformed at its root. It is why I teach: Manage your Energy, manage your life.
The more conscious you become of the Energy operating within you, the more consciously you can work with it instead of unconsciously being led by it. When a deeper current changes, the leader meeting the same circumstances is different. A conversation becomes easier. A trustworthy person becomes visible. A decision that produced weeks of overthinking becomes clear.
Design gives direction. Energy provides the current. Capacity determines how much Energy the human system can conduct.
Instead of asking again what you should do, ask: What Energy am I operating from that makes doing what I already know so difficult?
Because sometimes you are not stuck because you do not know the way forward. You are stuck because an old Energy is still trying to lead you into a future it was never designed to create.
